Managing Diabetes NZ Ltd is a New Zealand owned business providing specialised diabetic products and care for patients. The company really does know and understand insulin dependent diabetes, as a majority of the team involved are insulin dependant as well as specifically trained to manage diabetes - we understand the condition and have usually experienced the same challenges Type1 people face with managing the condition. We employ two diabetes nurse educators (both who are type 1) and another certified pump trainer. Combined our team of 4 staff have an accumulated 23+ years experience in Pump therapy and are proud to offer a specialised pump service within NZ that is second to no one!

Managing Diabetes NZ Ltd is an independent business committed to providing a range of Insulin Pumps, the widest range of consumables and strives to ensure that the options are the most affordable for patients within NZ to enable more people to benefit from Insulin Pump Therapy.

We also advocate for funding of Insulin Pump therapy within New Zealand to make Insulin Pumps more accessible and available to all patients. Over the last 3 years we have donated 12 Insulin Pumps to children of families where insulin pumps were out of their financial reach. We are proud to have done this and hope to continue with an ongoing sponsorship program.

Justin Walker (Director)
Justin Walker started on Insulin Pump therapy more than 10 years ago. It didn't take long to realise the benefits of being on a pump and how much easier it was to control diabetes in a busy life. Justin's passion for helping others managing diabetes goes back a number of years, firstly in a general interest and volunteer capacity joining groups for people with Type 1 diabetes and leading a support group for pumpers. A change of career was inevitable as small amounts of contract work for Smiths Medical International (manufacturer of the Deltec Cozmo Insulin Pump) eventually led to full time work. The exit of Smiths from the NZ market opened up an opportunity to found Managing Diabetes NZ Limited. Justin has now completed more than 250 patient pump starts over a six year period and is regarded as a leading expert in Pump Therapy. The highlight for Justin working in this field is the contact with people from all walks of life whether it be assisting at various children's camps, an invaluable experience for children living with the condition, or witnessing the positive change in those transferring to insulin pump therapy.

It is super exciting to be the newest member of the MDNZ team. Since leaving school I have done many things but in recent years have studied nursing at university and worked in the paediatric wards around Wellington as a Nurse. Now in my late twenties I have had diabetes for almost half my life. For the last four years I have been managing my diabetes with the aid of an insulin pump. What an amazing four years it has been! I am no longer plagued by the uncontrollable, unpredictable fluctuations in blood glucose levels that are an unavoidable consequence of multiple daily injections. I now experience a freedom that I have never had since my diagnosis, having diabetes no longer controls my life but is just another thing to consider when I am living life to the full.

I am excited about sharing my new found freedom with others and am passionate about helping those who have diabetes to manage their condition well and live life to the full.

I look forward to meeting you soon

Andy
